Study Skills Part 2 - Creating a Table on a Document

The second study strategy that we talked about as a class was to create a table on a Google Document.  The table would have 2 columns.  The first column would be for the questions or the information that you need to find.  The second column would be for the answer to the question/the information.  We talked about the use of colour to help with the organization of the information.  The students used the study guide that was shared with them to fill in the first column of the table.

Forces Science Test Study Notes

Things I need to know:
Answers:
Know each of Newton’s three laws and be able to provide/recognize an example of each.
Newton’s First Law of Motion:

Objects in motion    tend to stay in motion    and  Objects at rest   tend to  stay at rest   unless they are acted on by  some outside force.
Example:

Newton’s Second Law of Motion:

The  greater  the  force   acting on an object, the  more   it  changes  in speed    or  direction  ; the  heavier  the  object   is, the   less    it   changes   in   speed    or  direction   .
Example:

Newton’s Third Law of Motion:

For  every action    there is an  equal    and  opposite reaction    .

Study Skills Part 1 - Cue Cards

Over the past couple of days we have been discussing different study strategies we could use for learning.  One of the study strategies we talked about was the use of cue cards.  The students will practice this study strategy for their next Bible test on Adam and Eve.  Each student was given cards on which to write the questions from the study guide.  On the back side of each card, the students wrote the answer to the question on the front.  They were also encouraged to draw picture cues on the card to help them remember the information.

A Thanksgiving Poem

Today the students were given the assignment of writing a Thanksgiving Poem that shows honour and praise to God.  They were given a list of Bible verses on the topic, and they were asked to write what they read in their own words or to write phrases that were inspired by the verses.  The following is their final composition.

Oh Lord, My God, I Will Always Give Thanks To You
A compilation poem by 5G 2014-2015

Let us come before the Lord and thank him for his son Jesus Christ.
God gave us life and we should thank him for that.
Thanks be to God for his incredible gift, eternal life.
I will give thanks to the Lord because of his righteousness, love, grace and kindness.

Oh Lord, My God, I will Always Give Thanks To You!

Thank God and worship him with your heart, for he gave you the gift of his son.
We should give the Lord respect and exalt him.
God founded the earth and created it with his bare hands.
For the Lord loves you with all his heart!

Oh Lord, My God, I will Always Give Thanks To You!

Praise the Lord and extol him with music and song.
Since we are receiving a great kingdom, let us be thankful.
The angels guard the doors from evils that desire to enter.
Do not be silent, sing to the Lord.

Oh Lord, My God, I will Always Give Thanks To You!

I was ordered by God to thank him,
But I would have done this by my own free will.
The Lord is my strength and my shield;
I trust in him, my heart jumps for joy and I will sing thanks to him.

Oh Lord, My God, I will Always Give Thanks To You!

I’ll give thanks to you and exalt you when the devil speaks.
The Lord deserves praise because he is very good.
Give thanks to God, he is good, he is love forever.
Give thanks to the Lord for he is great, he is above all Kings.

Oh Lord, My God, I will Always Give Thanks To You!

Let us take part in the Thanksgiving meal and praise him.
I will thank you in the great crowd among everyone who praises you.
Give him praise and proclaim his name and let the nations know what he has done for you.
My heart jumps for joy as I praise him.

Oh Lord, My God, I will Always Give Thanks To You!

The students' assignments were to read the poem at one of their gatherings over this Thanksgiving weekend.

Thanksgiving Display in the Church Foyer

The grade 5's were privileged to be asked to create a Thanksgiving display for the church foyer.  Many of the students brought in Thanksgiving themed items to include in the display and the students in 5G had the opportunity to sponge paint letters onto a burlap banner.  The verse that we chose for the banner was Psalms 95:2-3.  "Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.  For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods."

I would like to wish all of our 5G families a Happy Thanksgiving as you spend time with friends and family reflecting on all of the many blessings that God has given each one of you.
